New Askings Task Force Blog

Welcome to the Askings Task Force blog.  A new blog  inviting discussion about diocesan askings.  In the days ahead a questionaire will be posted seeking your comments.

The Askings Task Force was formed by Bishop Waggoner in response to a request from the Diocesan Council and issues/resolutions presented at the past Diocesan Convention.  In its tasking the Task Force has been directed to analyze Askings practices in other dioceses and Askings process within our own diocese.  Upon conclusion of its analyses the Task Force will provide recommendations through the Bishop to the diocesan Council.

Members of the Askings Task Force include:

Ted Paterson, Chair, Grace Church, Dayton

Rev. Patton Boyle, St. Luke’s, Wenatchee

George Durrie, St. Paul’s, Cheney

Rev. Chris Hagenbuch, Holy Trinity, Grangeville

Kay Rafferty, St. John’s Cathedral, Spokane

Rev. Dave Walker, St. John’s Cathedral, Spokane

Rev. Stanalee Wright, St. Anne’s, Omak

  1. I received a letter from the diocese asking for comments on the Asking practices of the diocese. My comments are that you should take into consideration the amount left when you take line 6A, then subtract line 18G, and see if it is reasonable to request the 22% from that particular church. And DEFINITELY, I think there should be an appeals process for churches unable to pay the asking. We are a very small church struggling to keep afloat and we have four members that pledge to the church and are able to meet bills with that. Sometimes the extra for Asking is what makes our budget go in the red. We have tried to cut all extra expenses, and are doing better at the moment, but don’t know how long we will be able to pay all of our Asking. And because mission support is no longer available, the Asking is a rather large sum for us to meet. We ask that you somehow look on more of individual basis for the Asking request. Thank you.

  2. Susan: Thank you for the comments and greatly appreciated — your the first one on the Askings blog. Fully understand what happens within a small Mission Church. Gongrats and thanks. Ted

  3. Hi Ted

I had a talk with our Bishop warden and she would like to get input from the Bishop Comm. before she replies to the questions.

  4. We are a very small congregation and also are struggling to pay our expenses. I will poll my committee and ask for their input to your request. Holy Trinity, Grangeville June 25, 2009
